Commodore’s Message |
The Commodores Ball is the capstone event of the SWYC year where we celebrate the events of the season just completed, look forward to the next year and to learning who our club board members will be for the coming year. Patty Maxfield, our board Secretary and Kathy Rodgers, our Membership lead are stepping down. I would like to thank them for their years of service and support to the SWYC. Their presence on the board will be greatly missed.
While 2023 is yet a few months away, planning for the coming season will begin in December and accelerate in the January/February time frame when each of the interest groups convene to discuss programming. Whatever your passion, please step up to participate in the event planning for the interest group of your choosing. Look for announcements in the January newsletter and on the SWYC website event calendar for these planning sessions.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the SWYC leads, past and present, and the many members who have volunteered throughout the year. It’s made my first year as your Commodore such an enjoyable one. Calm seas, fair winds and clear skies to you,
Pete Grimlund

Kayaking News |
Kayaking with the SWYC
In late October, several of our kayakers gathered for an evening to celebrate the 2022 paddles and start talking about what our kayaking members would like to see happen in 2023 and even over the winter months. A potluck dinner was shared as well as good cheer.
Watch for planning to start in earnest in January. Maybe a return to West Beach Resort on Orcas Island next year in September? Camping/kayaking trip to Baker Lake in June is confirmed. Check the SWYC website event calendar for future meetings and updates.
Contact Katy Shaner if you are interested in being a part of the SWYC kayaking group by accessing her email address online through the SWYC membership list.

Members’ Tips and Training |
Website Tip for November
The SWYC website https://swyachtclub.org is an ever-changing but very important tool to our club. We need your help in keeping it current and useful to each one of us and to those outside of the club.
Tip –What if your Zoom link doesn’t work?
If you are Zooming into one of our monthly meetings and the link doesn’t work, try going directly to Zoom.us. Just enter Zoom.us into your browser frame. From that screen, click on “Join” in the upper right hand corner. On the “Join Meeting” screen, enter the Meeting ID # and Passcode. The Meeting ID and Passcode are always included in the Monthly Meeting Reminder and can also be found in the event description on the SWYC Website Calendar of Events.
Another action to try is to open Zoom.us in a different browser. For example, if Safari is your default internet browser and you are having trouble opening the link, try opening Zoom.us in Chrome, or Edge. Then follow the instructions to enter the Meeting ID and Passcode
*** If you know of any club member who is not receiving these newsletters or other club communications, please email bilgerat@swyachtclub.org. We’ll help them get connected. *** |
